There are several ways to point a domain name to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you've developed a site through some on-line service that provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. It is important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one company and functioning e-mail address with another one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes further configuration may be needed with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

In case you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will take you only a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account through the Hepsia CP included with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type, that will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, such as Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server from our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it takes just a few mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed via our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will see a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you will simply have to select the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter will be redirected to and save the change. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is just as simple and takes a click. In case you experience any issues, you can go through our detailed help article, see the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or simply contact us for assistance.
